Daily Trivia - Intel Giving up 5G

Did you know, Intel actually one of 5G modem manufacturer?

Intel XMM 8160 announce back in 2018 but it was cancel on 2019. Today Intel will completely exit the 5G baseband market and transfer its technology to two Chinese companies.

As early as 2019, Intel sold its 5G-related baseband business for smartphones and tablets to Apple while retaining some patents. However, they continued to develop 4G/5G wireless products for the laptop platform. Now, Intel is cutting ties with this business as well.

Intel will transfer its technology solution for the development of 5G WWAN products for laptops to MediaTek and Fibocom and is expected to be completed by the end of May. Intel will completely withdraw from the 5G market by July.

Look like WiMAX story all over again.
