Jin Daily AI Trivia: OpenAI x SoftBank Stargate Project Stuck, Can’t Close the Deal
The massive $500B Stargate AI data center project by OpenAI and SoftBank is now facing serious delays. Insiders say the plan has been heavily scaled down and progress is much slower than expected.
The two sides—OpenAI and SoftBank—still can’t agree on key issues like where to build. The new company they set up for the project hasn’t even signed a single data center deal. For now, they’ve lowered their goal to just building a small facility in Ohio by the end of this year.
Meanwhile, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman isn’t waiting around. To prepare for the next version of ChatGPT, he’s already signed big data center deals on his own—like a $30B deal with Oracle for 4.5GW of compute, plus another smaller deal with CoreWeave.
At the same time, Zuckerberg just announced Meta will build a data center as big as Manhattan to support its AI plans.
Elon Musk also threw some shade again. When someone reposted his old comment from January—“they don’t actually have the money”—he replied: “They still don’t.”
So, Stargate isn’t dead, but definitely off track. For now, all eyes are on whether they can at least get the Ohio site up and running. Insiders say control issues and disagreements are still slowing everything down.
PS: Maybe they need pay some Contract Manager 2-3% of the data center project money to get thing rolling hahaha (joking :P)
hope you learn something new today!! See Ya!!
