Daily Jin Tech Trivia: DCar China Tests ADAS on Real Roads — Only Tesla Survives
DCar Studio (Dongchedi), an ex-Bytedance company and one of China’s most prominent automotive media platforms, recently conducted a comprehensive road test on Full Self-Driving (FSD) ADAS features across 36 different car models from various manufacturers.
You might remember DCar last time from when they shook the industry by releasing their own independent crash test results for 30 popular cars in China—exposing that many weren’t as safe as advertised under real-world conditions.
This time, they’re back with an even bolder move: a full-scale test of ADAS performance on real urban roads and highways. (Yes, they even sealed off a segment of highway just to get real data.)
The result? Tesla came out on top—proving to be the only car that consistently followed traffic rules and avoided most potential accidents, despite relying solely on camera-based vision. Meanwhile, many other self-driving systems failed to complete basic scenarios, even those packed with multiple LiDARs and more sensors than a spaceship. On paper, they looked amazing. In practice? Not so much.
I’ve included a short compilation video with English subtitles. The full 3-hour version is linked in the comments (watch it before it mysteriously disappears—some car brands really don’t like bad press 😅).
Hope you learned something new today. See ya!
