Anthropic just made a big move: Claude AI is now banned for any company with majority Chinese ownership (more than 50% owned directly or indirectly by Chinese investors).

And it’s not just companies in China—this ban also applies to overseas subsidiaries, cloud resellers, or even firms trying to sidestep the rules by registering in places like Singapore.

Anthropic says the decision comes from legal, regulatory, and national security concerns. They’ve also extended the same ban to other “adversarial nations” like Russia, Iran, and North Korea.

This marks the first time a US AI company has openly enforced such a direct service/export block—potentially the start of a new phase of American firms tightening control over AI tech access.
