Somewhere on the Ukrainian front line, a 2020 MacBook Air (M1) reportedly stopped a fragment from an artillery shell. The shard punched straight through the display, yet the machine still powers on and works fine as a desktop when connected to an external monitor. Photos show a clean hole through the lid, but the internals survived well enough for the owner to log in and send this tweet.

Anecdotally, most people I know who are still using 5–6-year-old Apple Silicon MacBook Airs are perfectly happy with both performance and battery life. Hard to say the same for many 2020-era Windows laptops—especially with Windows 11. For most of them, the battery is already long gone. (Windows 11 can’t go to sleep bug anyone?)
