Daily Trivia - ACropalypse - Google Photo edit go wrong

Did you know, if you try to cover your sensitive information on your photo using the phone build in editing tool, it still can be leaked ??

Recently, reverse engineers Simon Aaarons and David Buchanan discovered a security vulnerability in the image editing tool Markup that comes with Google Pixel phones. According to information disclosed by Aaarons on Twitter, the vulnerability, named “aCropalypse,” can restore images that have been edited using Markup.

This means that there is a possibility that any privacy information, such as names, addresses, and credit card numbers, that users crop or obscure using the tool can be restored.

Aaarons and Buchanan explained that this vulnerability exists because Markup saves the preview thumbnail in the same location as the edited photo and never deletes the original version.

Google has already fixed the vulnerability in the March security update and classified it as “high” severity. The update has been pushed to models such as Pixel 4a, 5a, 7, and 7 Pro, but it is unclear whether it will be pushed to other Pixel devices.

It is unclear whether other Android phone markup tool have the same flaw.
