Alibaba just dropped their own AI IDE — Tongyi Lingma. It’s no longer just a plugin — it’s a full-on VS Code fork AI IDE with MCP ready

It comes packed with all the expected features: full code completion, multi-turn context (MCP), agent mode, long-term memory, cross-line code completion — basically, the whole deal.

However, it currently only supports Qwen and DeepSeek models. Let’s hope more models get added soon.

It uses # instead of @ for function calls in the chat interface… why tho??

And don’t even get me started on the name. The Chinese name is kinda cursed: 通义灵码 — sounds like something straight out of a Taoist almanac or ghost manual. Same vibe as 择日宜忌通义书.

And the English name? LINGMA… bruh. All I hear is “deez nuts” energy.

I can’t take this seriously anymore •_•

Unless you really want a Chinese-centric AI IDE, best stick with Cursor or Windsurf for now. Let’s hope Lingma levels up over time.
