ByteDance—the company behind TikTok, Lark, and Trae—has just launched its latest AI models: Doubao 1.6 and Seedance 1.0 Pro.
Doubao 1.6 includes three models:

What’s special about Doubao 1.6?

It’s as low as ¥0.8 RMB (~$0.11 USD) per 1 million tokens—a 63% decrease compared to DeepSeek-R1. Even better, this pricing applies across all models, with tiered rates only for larger token window requests. That means you can call a high-performance model and still pay next to nothing, as long as your context size is small.
Differences between the 3 Doubao models:
All models support reasoning/thinking.Only seed-1.6 and seed-1.6-flash let you toggle thinking mode on/off. seed-1.6-flash is the fastest and cheapest—especially when using batch/cache prompts. (0.03RMB/1M token) seed-1.6-thinking is the smartest model. You cannot disable thinking mode, and it has slightly higher output token pricing.
All models in the seed-1.6 series support up to 256K token context windows, with a max 16K output.
Just like Alibaba’s Qwen, I believe Doubao’s multimodal support is top-tier—probably thanks to their rich training data (hello, TikTok!). While it doesn’t yet match Gemini Flash’s 1M token window, Doubao’s pricing is unbeatable for small AI tasks, especially now that you can use a thinking-capable model at such a low cost.
