Google – Gemini CLI: Free with a Google Gemini account, but drops to the Flash model if servers are busy.

Alibaba – Qwen Coder: A fork of Gemini CLI, offering 2,000 free qwen3-coder requests per day during the promo period.

Anthropic – Claude Code: The OG of CLI coding tools. No free tier, requires a Claude subscription — unless you swap in a KIMI K2 API key via OpenRouter for limited free usage.

And now… 🥁 OpenAI’s own CLI tool — Codex — finally lets ChatGPT Plus/Pro users sign in! Previously, it only worked with pay-per-use OpenAI API keys.

This means you can tap into huge GPT-5 quotas (up to 3,000 requests every 3 hours) and even access the Thinking tier — similar to Anthropic’s Opus model.
