Clawdbot (also known as Moltbot) has been all over AI news lately — and many folks are sharing tutorials on how to set it up for free online.

But unless you really know what you’re doing, running it in a local environment is still the safer choice.

The security of agentic LLMs boils down to three things: • Whether it can access your private data • How much it’s exposed to untrusted external content • Its ability to communicate externally

Since Moltbot requires access to your personal data and needs to crawl the open internet, the best protection is to restrict its external communications — in other words, run it locally (say, on a Mac Mini).

You can still reach your local setup securely via a tunnel or using Tailscale.
